What is the STORJ token, and what does Storj pay in now?
STORJ is a utility token on the Ethereum network which follows the ERC20 standard. It was previously used to pay Storage Node Operators and to pay for storage on the Storj network.
Storj now uses USD Coin (USDC) instead of STORJ. USDC is a stablecoin issued by a third party that is designed to hold a value of one US dollar. It is also an ERC20 token on the Ethereum network.
- Storage Node Operators receive their payouts in USDC on Ethereum (Layer 1). See Payout for details.
- Customers can pay for storage by depositing USDC on Ethereum (Layer 1). See payment methods for details.
The zkSync Era Layer 2 payout method was sunset on September 1, 2026.
